International Architecture re_Union (1998-present)
“MUNDANEUM” was the name we chose in honor of the 1910 project of Belgian lawyers Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine, whose objective was to collect all the knowledge of the world in one place, that’s why today it is considered the precursor of the Internet. In 1929 Otlet and La Fontaine commissioned Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier to design the MUNDANEUM, an International Scientific and Educational Center, a city of world culture destined to be part of the International Associations that constituted the League of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
For us, the organizers of this international conference, this represents an inspirational flag that reestablishes a very special meaning, the possibility of redeeming the utopian visions of those times. It has become an inspiring symbol and has set in motion what had been previously celebrated: times and spaces of peace and collaboration.
Today, freedom is a word used in architecture and in the arts in general. The architect, like every artist, fulfills an extraordinary social and political responsibility, keeping the imagination and language alive.
